This past Friday night, the Vikings (3-6) took on the Middleton Tigers (0-8) on Senior Night here in Linden. All Senior cheerleaders, band members and football players were recognized for their unbelievable dedication to their teams these past four years. The Vikings were looking to win more than one home game for the first time in ten years. In the early going, things looked promising. Senior Bryce Milton took the opening kickoff all the way to the three-yard line to start things off. Then, Senior lineman Steven Martin took the handoff from Senior Josh Warren and barreled his way into the endzone and PCHS led 6-0 early. On the Tigers first possession, the Vikings gave up only one yard and the Tigers had to punt it back to the Vikings. On the next play, Senior Josh Jones took the ball and busted up the middle, breaking three tackles in the process and went 81-yards to the house for a touchdown and Sophomore Marcos Woo knocked down the extra point and the Vikings led 13-0. Later in the quarter, the Tigers were able to get some yards thanks to a couple busted plays and they turned that fortune into points and the Vikings led 13-6 after one. In the second quarter, the Vikings started to get plagued by penalties, so on third-down, Milton ran a reverse to the left side and broke one tackle for the touchdown and Woo’s kick was good again as the Vikings led 20-6 going to the half. In the second half, the Vikings offense started to get rolling early. PCHS took the second half kickoff all the way inside the five-yard line and Warren punched it in on the first play as Woo made the extra point and the Vikings led 27-6. Later on in the quarter, PCHS’ defense came up with a big stop and the Viking offense came back out and scored once again, thanks to Jones who ran the ball up the middle into the endzone and Woo’s kick was good and the Vikings led 34-6 after three. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings let some of their younger guys play and Middleton was able to score to make it 36-14. Then the Tigers got the ball back after a fumble and scooped the ball up in the endzone for a touchdown and with seven minutes to go, the Vikings and Tigers were in a 36-22 dog fight. However, on the next Viking possession, Junior Landon Smith took the hand off at the forty-yard line and took it to the end zone for the score and Woo went 5-for-6 on PAT’s and the Vikings came away with a 41-22 win. The Vikings will travel to Bruceton to take on the Tigers (1-8, 0-4 R6-1A) this Thursday, not Friday. The reason why is because of the referee shortage in the state, every team has to play at least one Thursday night game this year. The Perry County Vikings (2-6, 0-4 R6-1A) traveled to McEwen this past Friday night to take on the Warriors (2-6, 1-2 R6-1A) in a very big Region 6-1A matchup. In the early going, the Vikings got the ball to start the game and unfortunately went three and out. On the Warriors first possession, the Warriors were able to drive down the field with a long possession and get into the end zone but the extra point was blocked by Josh Warren and the Vikings trailed 6-0 after one. For most of the second quarter, the Vikings were able to keep the ball for over three quarters of the quarter and on second and goal at the one yard line, Senior Josh Warren ran up the middle and got into the end zone and Sophomore Marcos Woo nailed the extra point and the Vikings led 7-6. Late in the first half, the Warriors came back and scored quickly to get back ahead and after the two-point conversion, the Warriors led 14-7 at the half. In the second half, the Vikings had to kick off to McEwen but the Vikings defense were able to get a big stop when Sophomore Nate Mathis was able to tip the ball up and catch it with one hand to get PCHS the ball back. After a long drive, the Vikings turned it over on downs and McEwen got the ball back as they led 14-7 going to the fourth period. However, the Warriors gave the Vikings some of their own medicine as they started to just run the ball behind their bigger offensive line. The Warriors scored to make it 20-7 and missed the two-point conversion. The Vikings tried to come back but once again turned the ball over on downs and the Warriors scored one more time as the time expired as the Vikings fell 27-7. The Vikings host the Middleton Tigers (0-8) this Friday night at Viking Stadium for Senior Night. PCHS has a chance to win more games in a season since 2011 if they can win their last two games. The Perry County Vikings (2-5, 0-3 R6-1A) took on the reigning Class 1A State Champion and #4 ranked McKenzie Rebels (6-1, 3-0 R6-1A) this passed Friday night at Viking Stadium. The Rebels were as good as advertised as they aired it out all night long as their first score was from 67-yards out and the two-point conversion was good and it was 8-0 early. The Vikings offense kept going backwards with the bigger and more physical Rebels defense putting on a show. The Rebels scored once again and led 15-0 but the Vikings offense continued to fight as they were able to get to mid-field but could not get much closer. The Rebels again scored to make it 22-0 and the Vikings offense went three and out before the Rebels put up another score right before the end of the quarter to make it 29-0 after one. In the second, it was much of the same. The Vikings turned the ball over as Senior Josh Warren threw his second interception of the season and the Rebels were in business. On the next snap, they threw the ball 45-yards to make it 36-0. After two more scores, the Vikings were down 50-0 at the break. But in the third quarter, they were able to get some fireworks going as Warren found Junior Landon Smith cutting through the middle of the field in stride as he ran it in from 37-yards out and Sophomore Marcos Woo made the extra point to put the Vikings on the board 50-7. The Rebels scored one more time before the end of the game to put it out of reach as the Vikings fell 57-7.

The Vikings are off this week as they are on fall break but they will be back next Friday night as they travel to McEwen to take on the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on YouTube (WOPC) and on wopclive.com. The Perry County Marching Vikings, led by Ms. Marlana Nyholt-Overbay, traveled to Trousdale County High School to compete in the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The kids left really excited and nervous but they return home with four trophies and a plaque from their first competition in program history. The band won second place in overall band, second place in percussion, second place in guard, and second place in drum major. The judges acknowledged the band with the Up and Coming award as a band to watch out for in the future. Ms. Marlana and the band want to thank everyone who has helped along the way as the kids continue to rock on.

The Perry County Vikings (2-4) traveled three hours to Red Boiling Springs just east of Lafayette in Macon County this past Friday night. The Bulldogs (4-2) historically have had some hard times in football but their program has been getting better just like the Vikings have. In this game, this was a tale of two halves.

In the first quarter, the Vikings kicked it off to the Bulldogs and on the second play of the game, RBS scored first on a 41-yard pitch and catch to make it 7-0. The Vikings battled back as Senior Josh Warren and classmate Luke Lindberg connected on a 39-yard pass and Sophomore Marcos Woo knocked down the extra point as the Vikings tied things up 7-7. However, the Bulldogs came back again on fourth down as the quarterback dumped it off to the running back and he took it 43-yards to the house to make it 14-7 RBS after one. In the second quarter, PCHS got a gift from RBS as they tried to punt after the defense came away with a three and out. RBS punter couldn’t hang on to the ball and Junior Zane Noel was able to pounce on him for a big loss and the Vikings had the ball first and goal at the 5-yard line. Warren ran the ball to the one but classmate Josh Jones put it in from the one and then PCHS went for two, this time Warren put it in and it was 15-14 Vikings. Again, back came the Bulldogs as their quarterback found an open receiver for a 52-yard pass and the Bulldogs went for two to make it 22-15 with about three minutes remaining. The Vikings got the ball at the Bulldog 30-yard line, Warren ran a designed quarterback keeper and broke three tackles and took it in for a 30-yard touchdown and the extra point was blocked but at the half, the Vikings trailed 22-21. In the second half, however, the Bulldogs came out firing after they celebrated Senior night. The Vikings offense could not get anything going as the quarterback for RBS is also a linebacker, he tipped Warren’s pass up to himself and ran it back for a 25-yard pick six to make it 28-21. Then a big 40-yard touchdown pass got it 35-21 going to the fourth quarter. The Vikings kept fighting but couldn’t get any more points on the board as the Bulldogs scored from 40 yards out with minutes to spare as the Vikings fell 42-21.

The Perry County Vikings (2-3) took on the Stewart County Rebels (0-5) from Class 3A this past Friday night. It was Homecoming, teachers got pied in the face, there was a beauty pageant for the senior football players, there was games and activities, then a big parade going through town. Then before the game, we had ladies dressed in their best representing each class as they come on to the field with old sports cars, (David Weatherly had the best), and jacked up trucks. But when it was time for kickoff, the festivities were just beginning.

In the early going, the Rebels got the ball to start the game, but the Vikings defense stood tall as they made the Rebels turn the ball over on downs. On the Vikings first possession, they drove the ball to the 29-yard line and Senior Josh Jones took the handoff 29-yards for a Viking touchdown. Sophomore Marcos Woo tacked on the extra point and the Vikings led 7-0. On the next Rebels possession, the Vikings defense once again stood their ground, as they were able to make the visitors from Dover punt. After a couple penalties on the Vikings, the ball was placed all the way to the three-yard line. On the next play, Senior Luke Lindberg broke through the middle of the line of scrimmage and took the handoff 97-yards for another PCHS touchdown. Once again, Woo tacked on the extra point and the Vikings led 14-0 after one. In the second quarter, the Rebels started to drive the football down the field, but again the PCHS defense did not let them past the 40-yard line as the Rebels had to punt again.

The Vikings were able to get in the end zone one more time as Senior Josh Warren found classmate Bryce Milton in the flat and Milton took it 38-yards for the touchdown and Woo went 3-for-3 on extra points and the Vikings led 21-0 at the half. In the second half, it was much of the same. Sophomore running back Aiden Flowers got the snap at the one-yard line and put it in for the touchdown and Woo once again knocked down the extra point as the Vikings led 28-0. The Rebels got into Viking territory and on fourth down, the Rebels did a quick pass that caught the Vikings off guard and scored their first and only points of the game as the extra point was good and after the third it was 28-7 Vikings. In the fourth, PCHS marched down the field again, this time on fourth-down as well, Warren found Lindberg cutting in the middle of the Rebels defense as he juked to his left, then right and ran it in for a 33-yard touchdown.

Once again Woo was magnificent as he ended the night going 5-for-5 on extra points as the Vikings led 35-7. Then on the next Rebels possession, they had the ball at their own 7-yard line, Warren busted through the line of scrimmage and sacked the quarterback in the endzone for a Safety and that would do it as the Vikings came away with a 37-7 Homecoming victory.

The Vikings travel to Red Boiling Springs in Macon County this Friday night to take on the Bulldogs (3-2). The Perry County Vikings (1-3, 0-2 R6-1A) traveled to Atwood this passed Friday night to take
on the West Carroll War Eagles (2-1, 1-0 R6-1A) in a big Region 6-1A matchup. In the early
going, the War Eagles struck first as their running back found a hole on the right side of the
defense and took it in for the touchdown. The two-point conversion was good and the War
Eagles led 8-0. After the Vikings went three and out, the War Eagles again had a very successful
drive that ended in points as their running back took it in from 13-yards out. The two-point
conversion failed but the Vikings trailed 14-0 in the second quarter. About midway through,
Junior running back Zane Noel, took the handoff and looked to be stuffed at the line, however, he
burst through the line of scrimmage and looked to be heading for the end zone but got tripped up
right at the five-yard line. However, Senior Josh Warren took the ball into the end zone but the
extra point wasn’t good but now the score was 14-6 West Carroll. On the very next play from
scrimmage after the kickoff, the quarterback looked left and was trying to get the ball to his
receiver on a shovel pass. However, Junior Landon Smith noticed it and was able to catch the
ball and take it back 20-yards for the touchdown. The two-point conversion was good and just
like that with two minutes left in the first half, the Vikings tied things up 14-14. Then on the War
Eagles ensuing possession, they had plenty of time to score. The running back took off on third
down and scored from 30-yards out and the two point conversion was good and the War Eagles
led 22-14 at the half. The Vikings got the ball to start the second half off but the War Eagles
game plan worked to perfection as they outscored the Vikings 25-0 in the second half and the
Vikings lost 47-14.
The Vikings take on the Stewart County Rebels (0-4) this Friday night starting at 7:00 p.m. at
